
With the imminent arrival of winter, several retail outlets in the city have launched promotional offers to boost their sales as well as to get rid of summer-wear stocks.
The clearance sales are attracting customers who are rushing towards the eye-catching stock clearance sales given under names like mega bundle offers, buy one-get one free, 25% off – 50% off sale and QR 10 to QR 60 discount sales.
“The ready-to-wear garments have an age of six months in the stores. According to policy we are allowed to keep the clothes for only six months. We put this clearance sale at the end of every season to clear the one year-old stock of clothes from the warehouse. It is always difficult for us to manage the stock when the new collection arrives,” said Manoj Durailingam, Manager of Splash, City Center. “The exciting sale starts in December before Christmas, which continues for three weeks. The customers wait for this sale eagerly,” he further added.
Another marketing strategy behind these discount offers is to make new loyal customers. “Offering quality products at affordable prices creates goodwill for the shop among regular customers and they also try new collections,” he said, adding that the strategy ‘used to work well to boost sales and make new customers’. Echoing similar sentiments, an employee of a leading garments chain said, ‘Qatar residents usually waited to take advantage of these kinds of promotions.’
“Last year, we announced gift vouchers offer which wasn’t attracting enough but this year we are having exciting offers at affordable prices including discount sales of summer wear and last year’s winter collection. In this way they will be able to get what they need for coming winter and next summer,” said Urmila Kumar, employee of Baby Shop, City Center.
“This offer is most-awaited one, I was updated through an email by the brand outlet. I bought five shirts for QR150 and three outfits for my son for only QR125. I find this sale more attractive than the offer of last year gift-voucher scheme,” said Sarah Ismaile, a customer at the Baby Shop.
“People are more interested in buying the pull-overs, jackets, suits, shirts and all the garments we provide throughout the year. Regular customers are totally satisfied from their pre-Christmas shopping spree,” said the employee at Paris Moda, City Canter.
