To establish that the product manufacturers addressed safety and efficacy standards, we:Evaluate ingredients and composition: Do they have the potential to cause harm?Fact-check all health claims: Do they align with the current body of scientific evidence?Assess the brand: Does it operate with integrity and adhere to industry best practices? We do the research so you can find trusted products for your health and wellness.
People who wish to purchase and use organic products for their baby may find the selection overwhelming. There are countless products on the market that claim to be natural or organic. What do these labels mean?
In this article, we look at the difference between the terms organic and natural and provide a list of product suggestions just for babies.
Please also note that the writer of this article has not tested these products. All information in this article is research-based, and we do not intend to recommend certain products over others.
In the United States, there are regulations for organic labeling. Food products may have either Organic or 100% Organic labels. According to the NSF, products with a 100% Organic label must only contain organic ingredients.
The NSF also indicate that foodstuffs with an Organic label must have at least 95% organic ingredients. However, the remaining 5% of components must still come from a specific list of approved substances.
The National Organic Program (NOP), which is part of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), determine and set the rules for organic labeling in the U.S.
Some foods also feature a Made with Organic Substances. These must have at least 70% organic ingredients and not contain any prohibited substances.
Personal care products are a bit different. Because many cosmetic and personal care products go through processing, standards are not the same as with food. According to the NSF, products must state the percentage of organic ingredients in their products to receive an NSF/ANSI 305 certification.
There is no formal regulation of the term natural from the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). However, the Natural Products Association list a variety of seals and certification labels that some products display. However, even if a product has this label, there is still no guarantee that it is free from certain ingredients.
There is an overwhelming number of baby products on the market. We have compiled a list of popular natural and organic products to help people find what they need.
